Life as we know it is all about compromises, but when it comes to getting work done, how comfortable the work environment is, plays a great role. Especially in an office setting, many people tend to shy away from personalizing their space. Efficiency at work is a combination of several factors, and being comfortable is at the top of that list. When your work environment is comfortable, it becomes much easier for you to concentrate on the work at hand and do it perfectly. Therefore, personalizing your space is crucial to your productivity. To start you off, here are some suggestions on the personal items you should have at your work desk.
Items to personalize your work desk
Phone charger
The phone has become the primary communication device, to the level that your boss would rather call you on your phone rather than use the office desk phone (That is if your office still has them). However, no matter how smart smartphones seem to get, their batteries are stilld dumb, and need charging several times to take you through your day. It is best to have two chargers, one for work and the other for home. Forgetting a charger is very easy, and you might find yourself offline, unless you always have a charger when you need one.
Toothbrush and toothpaste or mouth wash
Proper grooming and personal hygiene play a great role in enhancing your confidence, something that is very much needed in an office environment. From time to time, we all forget to brush our teeth before we leave for work. If that is the case, then talking to collogues might be tricky, unless you have a backup plan in place. Keep an extra toothbrush and toothpaste or a bottle of mouth wash in one of your work desk drawers. This will come in handy especially when you least expect it.
Deodorant
At this point, you might be wondering why we are turning your work desk into your bedroom, but give it some consideration, and hear me out. Still on the issue of confidentiality, it is important to keep away bad body odor at all costs. During summer, our bodies tend to sweat a lot, and with sweat comes bad body odor. If you find yourself in such a situation, then you will be glad you have some deodorant tucked away in one of your drawers.
A minimal first aid kit
You never know when that small accident is going to happen. You might staple your finger, prick your skin using an office pin, or even get an allergic reaction. In such a case, having a first aid kit makes all the difference. Before you get proper medical attention, a little first aid will keep you going.
